Types of Eating Disorder Therapy

There are many different types of eating disorder therapies. Different therapies work differently for different people, and some may be more helpful than others, depending on the person and their stage of recovery. Below you will find a few different types of therapies along with their descriptions.

Types of eating disorders include:

  • anorexia
  • ARFID
  • binge eating disorder
  • bulimia
  • OSFED

It’s common for people to be diagnosed with “other specified feeding or eating disorder” (OSFED). This is not a less serious type of eating disorder – it just means that the person’s eating disorder doesn’t exactly match the list of symptoms a specialist will check to diagnose them with anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating disorder.

Whilst we don’t offer specialist treatment we can recommend the following organisations:

www.priorygroup.com/eating-disorders

www.gladstonesclinic.com/rehab-programmes/eating-disorders

www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk

Increasingly people are being told they are not ‘unwell’ enough or ‘not underweight enough’ to receive treatment. If you are looking for counselling, get in touch with us.
