A Mum Is …

Your mum is someone special

who loves you with no doubt

and whenever you’re in need

will always help you out.

Someone who is there

no matter what you do

ready with advice

to hold and guide you through.

No one else could be

your mum in any way

for she is a special part of you

that stays with you each day.

Your mum is who looks out for you

and gives you a loving home

is always there to listen

even if you moan.

She’s always in your life

until it’s time to go

and when this time comes

you are sure to know.

It seems so hard

without your mum there

and forever feels

like your hearts gonna tear.

You feel there is no point

in living on this way

all you want to have

is to have her back to stay.

It’s such a horrible feeling

that never ever goes

friends say they are there for you

but no one really knows.

All you want is hugs

and to let your tears out,

but still, you feel so lonely

like no one is about.

So always love and cherish

those moments with your mum,

Until you regret the time

when you come to having none.

Written: Age 17

My name is Lacey and I have always had a passion for writing poems and drawing. The writing first started when I was 13 (now 30) and had to write a poem for homework.

I never thought much about it after this and spent my spare time drawing, I always had a pen or pencil in my hand!

Throughout secondary school, I was bullied and at 14 I lost my Mum suddenly.
As you can imagine it was pretty tough dealing with grief and being at a certain stage of my life.
From here I began to write more.

Whilst going through counselling and therapy, I turned to pen and paper a lot. I found it was the easiest way to express my feelings, thoughts and fears that I couldn’t physically talk about.

Years later and hundreds of poems written, I still use my love for writing and drawing to create personalised gifts and handmade cards. I think it will always be a part of my life.

After being diagnosed with PTSD, depression and anxiety alongside other health conditions I would always look for ways to help myself. Sometimes that would mean returning to counselling or sometimes it could be picking up a pen and grabbing a piece of paper. It might have just been one word I had to go with but I would find the rest would follow and before I knew it there was another poem for the collection.

One of my dreams, since I started writing poems, was to help others that struggled with words to explain their emotions or even those that had lost a loved one at a young age. So here I am today sharing some of my poems in hope that they will help others.

Always remember you’re never alone.
